Ive got a bunch of old dvdr disks with data on them, some of them damaged and partly not readable. I cleaned/polished them and ive managed to recover a 1:1 iso image from some of them using an old samsung TS-H552U ide dvd drive and isopuzzle.exe which keeps retrying bad sectors till it gets them. However the drive has given up, probably as a result of trying to read so many times over bad sectors, but it did work. Tried several of the new LG SATA drives, one of them being a LG GH24NS90 and they are absolutely useless for what im trying to achive. The disks im trying to recover will read ok but very slowly but the end result is a very corrupted ISO and IsoPuzzle.exe reports no read errors, and upon closer inspection it appears the newer DVD drives seem to return zero's upon encountering read errors and the drive just continues as if the read error didnt occur, not good for what I need because IsoPuzzle thinks its read the sector when infact it hasnt. I don't mind busting a drive if its going to allow me to recover about 10 disks. I know when I get a clean copy because most of the disks have sfv checksum files on them.

Using Windows 7 32bit, also tried on linux using ddrescue and its the same problem with drive returning zeros on read errors.
