I have done a clean install of windows 7 home premium.

I have 2 x drives.

Nec DVD-RW ND-3500AG

Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-111
Both have been flashed some time ago with rpc1 firmware. Cannot remember what firmwares, as it was so long ago.
Both worked flawlessly under xp pro 64 bit.
I have used Ashampoo burning studio for many months without problems under xp.
Since moving over to windows 7, and upgrading ashampoo to the latest version which supposedly supports win 7, I cannot get it to recognize a blank dvdr. It is trying to detect the disk over and over. Very occasionaly, I will get the green tick for just a second, then it's back to a red cross.
Both drives are correctly listed in hardware devices.
I did also try imgburn and it sort of worked but gave an error at the end of burning and froze. The burnt dvd seems to be ok, but I have not watched the movie fully so can't say it is 100% ok.
I am guessing that either I have a wrong driver somewhere or I need to flash my drives with newer firmware to be recognized properly under win 7.

I have not yet installed much of my own stuff, so it is unlikely to be something I have installed. If anything, win 7 is at fault, as I just let win7 take care of any software updates.

Anyone any ideas?

windows 7 will install drivers automatically, you are using 9.20 ashampoo? i doubt firmware will have much to do with it, but post what firmware you have on both drives

Yes, I am using ashampoo 9.20.

How do I check what firmwares I have on my drives?

Only driver details I can see in system/device manager is the msoft driver.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate and all drives and software works fine. Everything worked fine when I was using Windows 7 RC.

I would check all your chipset and sata drivers for your motherboard are up to date.

My NEC 3500-AG has firmware v2.fa

Pinoeer dvr-111 has v1.29

So far, I have found that they work fine in Nero 9 and imgburn, but always gives an unspecified error at the end of a burn with imgburn, even though the disk seems fine.

Perhaps I have a duff copy of Ashampoo v9.20 but I did get teh same result with Ashampoo v10 but that states it is not windows 7 friendly.

what media is it? have you checked to make sure you have latest chipset drivers, also maybe an idea to check under device manager, that your drives are running in UDMA mode

As far as I know, I have the latest chipset drivers.

The disks are verbatim and Traxdata. I have always used these with no problems until I moved to win 7.

No where in device manager does it say anything about udma.

I also notice that both drives are listed as scsi drives. Is this correct? They are connected by the usual ide method.

I wonder if I have the wrong chipset drivers????

I used driveragent to find drivers for my chipset.

To be precise, you have not, but you have used that brands which doesnt mean they had the same manufacturer ID / MID at all.

Post the imgburn logfile.
