| Firmwares don't usually fix a drive when it has both reading and writing problems. Try cleaning the lens inside the drive with a lint-free cloth and some rubbing alcohol. |

| Cases used for premanufactured computers are often difficult to open up. One design that I have seen a few times is to have a sliding top on the case which hides the way that you remove the side panels. See if you can get the top part off, then you should be able to slide up the side panels. |

| Using different media (higher quality if possible) would probably be an easier solution. |

| Pioneer gives support to people who pay them money. Apple pays Pioneer for the drives which it puts into its computers and re-sells. Pioneer occasionally provides updates directly to Apple for redistribution to Apple customers. Pioneer does not directly support end users who install its retail drive... |

| You could also take the whole laptop apart and unplug the Hard Disk so that it won't conflict with the Toshiba drive. This might add new complications though if you needed to access files on the hard disk. |

It's possible that SP3 is the cause; it is beta...
I think you can be sure that you don't need to mess around with the firmware any further. |

| It can read DVD data now but it can't with DVD movie. Reinstall your software DVD Player. Windows XP does not provide the necessary software for DVD playback. You need a third party program which provides a DVD decoder. You can try using VideoLAN to play DVD movies which is free. It is generally no... |

| The drive is manufactured by Liteon, and Liteon drives will usually work with firmwares from different OEM's if you can get the firmware to flash. You'd probably have to get a binary copy of a UYS* firmware from someone who has it, then flash with the flash utility that you used to create the backup... |

| If you're trying to create an audio CD like what you'd buy in a store, then you don't want to be using a DVD+R disc, you want a CD-R. You should invest in some good CD/DVD burning software such as Nero, or Easy Media Creator. You can probably get a trial version of either one to begin learning to us... |

| I would honestly recommend making use of the warranty now to have the drive replaced. You have a perfectly justified reason (the drive no longer works), so you might as well get a new one. If you get a new drive, then its lifetime will be longer than if you can manage to patch up your old one. |

Funny, I just noticed this file out on Asus' servers today and added a link to our download page though it has been there since February 1st.
Nice first post, thanks for sharing. Your modified flasher allows you to downgrade back to 1.13? |

The region protection status of your drive does not affect its ability to burn a disc.
AnyDVD is supposed to work without modifying your drive, contact them for support with their product. |

| I'll just reinforce what others have said already; your drive is back to normal and should continue to function correctly until it dies of old age. There's no reason to suspect that the drive will have any problems caused by the initial flashing failure. |
